OpenAI recently launched a new venture targeting large enterprises, backed by over $4 billion. This is probably the company’s boldest move yet to push AI right into the core of business operations. They’re calling it the OpenAI Deployment Company, and its main job is to embed specialized engineering teams and deployment experts inside other companies to weave AI directly into their daily work.

Along with this launch, OpenAI picked up Tomoro- a consulting firm focused on AI that actually started in 2023 supported by OpenAI itself. With this deal, the Deployment Company gets about 150 seasoned AI engineers and deployment pros right from the start. That’s a big jump for OpenAI when it comes to rolling out AI in enterprises. Tomoro already works with some high-profile names like Mattel, Tesco, Red Bull, and Virgin Atlantic.

The structure for the Deployment Company is a multi-year partnership involving 19 different firms. TPG is taking the lead here, with Advent, Bain Capital, and Brookfield as co-leads. To close the gap between these powerful AI models and real-world business use, by dropping experts straight into client organizations to hunt down the biggest opportunities for AI.

All this is happening while the enterprise AI race heats up, especially with rivals like Anthropic whose Claude models are quickly gaining traction. People watching the industry say OpenAI’s new approach shows how the market’s shifting—these days, helping companies actually implement AI is equally important as the tech itself.
