In a surprising alliance that bridges Silicon Valley and the space industry, Anthropic has partnered with SpaceX to dramatically expand the computing power behind its Claude AI models, signalling how fierce the battle for AI infrastructure has become.
The deal gives Anthropic access to the full capacity of SpaceX's "Colossus 1" data centre in Memphis - a massive facility powered by more than 220,000 Nvidia GPUs and capable of delivering over 300 megawatts of compute capacity. The partnership is expected to ease growing pressure on Claude's systems as demand for advanced AI coding and reasoning tools surges globally.
What makes the collaboration especially notable is the unlikely pairing itself. Elon Musk has previously criticised Anthropic's approach to AI safety, yet SpaceX is now helping power one of OpenAI's biggest rivals.
