In April 2024, WeTransfer launched a creator-friendly feature: users can now sell files directly through the platform, with payments handled via Stripe. There are no additional platform fees, and the feature supports over 100 currencies.

The company was acquired in July 2024 by Italian app developer Bending Spoons, known for apps like Evernote and Meetup. As part of integration, the new owner plans to lay off up to 75% of WeTransfer staff to streamline operations under a “smaller, more sharply focused team” strategy.

In mid‑July 2025, WeTransfer updated its Terms of Service in a way that users interpreted as granting rights for WeTransfer to use content for AI training. Facing strong backlash, the company quickly revised the language: it now removes all references to machine learning and emphasizes that user content will not be used to train AI models or be shared with third parties. Ownership remains with the user and files will only be used to operate, develop, or improve the service in line with privacy policy.
